Pwani University students have been urged to embrace digital opportunities and transform their creativity into income-generating ventures following a “Hook’d on Fresh” masterclass hosted by Safaricom in partnership with Sprite.
The session, which attracted more than 500 students, focused on practical skills in content creation, personal branding, and monetization within the growing digital economy. It also highlighted the role of social media as a powerful tool for entrepreneurship among young people.
Through live demonstrations and interactive discussions, industry experts guided students on how to build online audiences and convert digital engagement into sustainable financial opportunities.
Students described the training as transformative, saying it challenged their perception of social media and opened their eyes to new income possibilities.
“I have learned that I can turn my creativity into something that earns me money,” said Alfred Fondo, a Computer Science student at Pwani University. “This has motivated me to take content creation more seriously as a future career.”
He added that access to affordable connectivity would play a key role in helping students remain active and consistent in producing digital content.
The masterclass also emphasized financial literacy, with students being encouraged to adopt saving and investment habits to manage income generated through digital platforms responsibly.
Key speakers including Tileh Pacbro, Rono, Juma Shibe, and Vallery shared their journeys in the digital space, offering practical advice on building influence and sustaining online careers.
Safaricom’s Wealth Management representative Phelister Wanjiru introduced the Ziidi Money Market Fund, encouraging students to think beyond earning and focus on long-term financial planning.
Organizers said the initiative is designed to empower young people with both technical and financial skills needed to succeed in the digital economy.
The “Hook’d on Fresh” programme continues to expand across Kenyan universities, reinforcing efforts to nurture a new generation of digital creators and entrepreneurs.
